Physiotherapy

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession with a science foundation that aims to restore movement and function to as near normal as possible when someone is affected by injury, illness or by developmental or other disability.

At Activ, we provide physiotherapy treatment and advice to help you manage and prevent a variety of conditions, which may result from everyday activities, work related problems or from an injury during exercise.

Who is physiotherapy for?

Everybody! Whether you are a serious sportsperson, sitting at a desk all day, a keen walker, born with a disability, a weekend warrior, had a recent injury, have a long-term problem or simply getting older, physiotherapy can help you. If you are not sure if we can help you, get in touch.

How your Physiotherapy session works

At your first visit:

  • We begin by taking a detailed account of your symptoms and medical history.

  • Your physiotherapist assesses your posture and range of movement and analyses the area of injury or discomfort.

  • They'll also carry out specialised orthopaedic tests used in medical practice if necessary.

  • Once that's done, your physio can make a diagnosis and create a tailored management plan for you. This often includes hands-on treatment, exercise and advice.

  • The hands-on treatments we use for your joints or soft tissues aim to reduce stiffness and tightness. These help to ease pain and muscle spasms, reduce scar tissue formation, and accelerate your healing.

  • Before you leave, the physio shall explain what exercises or activity modifications they'd like you to do to manage your injury at home.

  • Your initial consultation may take up to one hour and follow-up sessions are thirty minutes.
