Andy Enjoys the “Great Atmosphere” of The Round Sheffield Run

Andy put his best foot forward at the end of last month when he entered the Round Sheffield Run which is a challenging, scenic trail run that consists of 11 timed stages totalling 20km over a 24.5km route.

Andy had been training for three months with runs of gradual increasing distances, hill training sessions, gym strength training and sports massages from Activ's massage therapist Debbie to help him build his endurance and keep him injury-free. He was not put off by the challenging terrain and completed the route in an impressive 1 hour and 44 minutes.

He said: "I loved it! It was my first time running the Round Sheffield Run. I've had many friends and patients participate in this race for the last nine years and I have always wanted to take part in it and there was such a great atmosphere."

The annual multi-stage running experience, starting at Endcliffe Park, encompassed Sheffield's picturesque parklands and trails with runners passing through areas of Forge Dam, the Porter and Limb Valley, Ecclesall Woods, Beauchief Golf Course, Chancet Woods, Graves Park, Lees Hall Golf Course, Meersbrook Park and Brincliffe Edge before finishing back at Endcliffe Park - where everyone received a medal and a well earned drink.

Andy, who can be seen pictured during the trail run (wearing his Activ blue running kit!) enjoyed the sense of camaraderie among the competitors and support from spectators as it was sometimes tough going due to the heat.

"There were a lot of tough climbs but the moral support from others helped. Plus the rest between each stage helped me recover. It was a really hot day, which made things even tougher, and I was glad I took my own water with me on the run. It is so important to stay hydrated."

After completing the run, Andy was among the hordes of people enjoying the draft ales, delicious food and music from an on-site  DJ as part of the post-race celebrations.

"I hope to do it again next year. It was one of the most fun and enjoyable runs I have ever done. Plus I really enjoyed the beer and food after!'
