Shockwave Treatment

We are excited to tell you about a new treatment available here at Activ

"Shockwave works by delivering energy pulses using a pneumatic treatment gun. It feels like a strong, but painless pressure on the area. The treatment stimulates the metabolism and blood circulation to enhance growth factor, protein synthesis, collagen synthesis and tissue remodelling to promote healing in long term tissue damage."
‐ Shockwave Canada

Shockwave is a non-invasive treatment that has been used in medicine for many years to treat kidney stones and enhance fracture healing. Recently, it has been found to be beneficial in treating chronic tendon problems, soft-tissue injuries and plantar fasciitis. It is increasingly being used in healthcare and sports medicine to treat various long-term, stubborn problems including Plantar fasciitis (84% improvement in recent studies), Calcific tendonitis of the shoulder (91%), Tennis elbow/lateral epicondylitis (77%), Achilles tendinopathy (76%), Myofascial Trigger Point (95%), Patellar tendonitis (76%) & Hamstring muscle injuries (85%).

Shockwave will be on offer in our Totley clinic from August. Following an initial consultation to assess if you would benefit from Shockwave treatment (where you can have a trial treatment), prices will be £65 for a 30 minute session, or £180 for three sessions. These can be claimed back through Westfield or BUPA.

If you would like more information or to give it a try, tell your physiotherapist or get in touch 0114 2352727.
