Welcome To Maddie

We are thrilled to welcome Maddie, our new junior physiotherapist, to the Activ team. Maddie studied at Sheffield Hallam University and completed qualifications in Performance Coaching and Sports Massage – and plans to complete her nutrition qualification soon.

Up until the age of 16, Maddie competed in elite gymnastics and swimming before becoming a gymnastics coach.

She told InterActiv: "In my role as a  gymnastics coach I became involved with supporting injury prevention for some of the more elite gymnasts. This really sparked my interest in rehab and performance."

Before joining Activ, Maddie worked at a musculoskeletal clinic and carried out her own research into nutrition and women's health to expand her knowledge, including learning more about REDs (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sports) - a condition which can occur when the training demands what the body's taking in as fuel through food.

"It is something that is not widely talked about, particularly in women's health", she revealed.

Maddie reveals she is a 'people-person' and is excited to be joining the Totley team.

"I'm looking forward to learning from all of the physios, developing my skills and getting to know both the team and the patients. Everyone seems so passionate about helping others, and it's great to be part of such a supportive people-focused environment."

Outside of work, Maddie has always been involved in elite sport and competed at the World Cheerleading Championships held in Orlando, Florida, in April. She was part of a Rotherham-based team who were placed 13th out of 30 in the world. The team came third in the England (coed Level Five) division in their first ever cheerleading championship.

Maddie is now looking to transition into triathlon and Iron Man training, once she has recovered from a back injury.

In her spare time, Maddie loves to try out 'every hobby under the sun' including climbing, painting, and DJing and she is a self-proclaimed history nerd too!

She also loves baking.

"There's a good chance I'll bring home-baked cakes or cookies into the clinic."
