What is Physiotherapy?

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy describes Physiotherapy as...

"A healthcare profession with a science foundation that aims to help restore movement and function to as near normal as possible when someone is affected by injury, illness or by developmental or other disability".

Physiotherapy is the treatment, management and prevention of a variety of conditions, which may result from everyday activities, work related problems or from an injury during participation in sport.

How is treatment provided?

  • Manual Therapy:

    Soft-tissue techniques to reduce stiffness and relieve pain, reduce scar tissue, relieve muscle spasm and reduce tightness and accelerate healing.

  • Rehabilitation:

    Exercise programmes specific to the individual 's problems, muscle balance correction, core stability training and modified Pilates. Fully fitted gym available on the premises.

  • Preventative Advice:

    Postural re-education and appropriate stretching, activity modification and injury management.

  • Electrotherapy:

    A variety of techniques including Ultrasound, Interferential therapy and TENS. Heat and cold is also used to relieve pain and enhance healing.

  • Acupuncture:

    Local and distal needles for pain relief and to treat chronic headaches, spinal or joint pain, Osteoarthritis and acute pain (such as whiplash injuries), plus trigger point acupuncture for musculoskeletal pain.

  • Ergonomic Assessment and Advice:

    Ergonomic work station assessments for the office, home and sports field.

  • Home Visits:

    Treatment in the clients own property, respite home or workplace upon negotiation and if deemed appropriate.
